This year, Teen Parent Connection is celebrating a milestone- 40 years of services to the DuPage County community.  For every baby born to a teenage mom there is also a teenage father who is usually equally unprepared for the responsibilities of parenthood and often has fewer resources or social supports. At TPC, we recognize the important role a father plays in the lives of their children, which is why we are launching our Strong Fathers, Strong Families campaign.

Our Father Engagement program addresses the immediate and long-term needs of young fathers, supporting them as parents, providers, caregivers, and nurturers. By building confidence and essential parenting skills, our program helps fathers foster their child’s healthy growth and development. Engaged fathers contribute significantly to their children’s emotional and social well-being, leading to better outcomes in education, behavior, and health. Our resources and guidance empower fathers to create strong, positive relationships with their children, ensuring a stable and nurturing environment.

MEET TYLER AND JADA

Young parents-to-be, Tyler and Jada felt excited and a little scared when they found out they were pregnant. Soon after, Jada reached out to Teen Parent Connection for additional education and resources. Tyler also got involved as they both saw a Doula, attended Childbirth Education classes, and he connected with our Dads Program. “The topics in those classes helped not just for Jada but for me as well. I was already aware of everything because of the class.” Tyler said.

With a Doula by their side, they welcomed baby Mike into the world. Even after the birth of their baby, Tyler kept meeting with our Dads’ Program Coordinator, Patrick. “He always asks how I’m doing and we have conversations about what’s going on. He’s very helpful when I have questions about Mike, and when I’m going through my own anxieties about being a new dad and how to support a family.” The Dads Program was implemented as a way to give these young dads a safe environment to talk freely and to connect with other young dads that are going through the same experience.

“I just want to say thank you. I’m so thankful [TPC] has programs for not jus the mom but dads too.”
